WHY FATHERS MATTER

You probably already know how important and essential fathers are to their children.  Statistics show that the more the father is involved in their lives, the more easily children make open, receptive, and trusting contact with new people.  Eighty percent of pre-school children admitted as psychiatric patients come from homes without a father.  Similar percentages emerge from countries as diverse as Canada, South Africa, and Finland -- at children's ages from pre-school through teenage years.  Sixty-five percent of juveniles and young adults in state institutions come from homes without fathers.

ESPECIALLY AFTER DIVORCE

When fathers are not involved with their children after separation and divorce, young girls show signs of being hyperactive, headstrong, and antisocial.  An adolescent who experiences their father as being distant is much more likely to use drugs heavily.  The most important factor by far in preventing drug use is a close relationship with Dad.  Ninety percent of homeless or runaway children come from fatherless homes.  Most gang members are from mother-only households.  Living in mother-only homes contributes more than anything else to child suicide, for both sexes.
